High demand for real estate means that many homeowners face the issue of limited available square footage. American architectural firm, Laney LA Inc. used AKVO Spiralift space-saving technology to complement the design of a modern-style family courtyard, steps away from the ocean in Manhattan Beach. The young homeowners’ objective was to create a space with a full-size pool, spa and large terrace where they could enjoy free time with their two children and host friends and family.
Within the same 1500 sq. ft (140 sq. m) courtyard, the AKVO movable pool floor system doubles the family’s living space by allowing both the pool and spa to close, blending in perfectly with the backyard environment… completely transforming the space in just 10 minutes at the touch of a button! Part of the technology’s appeal is that the retractable terrace not only looks like a permanent installation but also feels like one, ready to be deployed for dinner or used as a safe play space for the kids.

Thanks to AKVO’s technology, the young couple can now adjust the pool’s depth to the optimal level, allowing their little ones to play in a paddling pool, mid-depth pool or full-depth pool.
When raised up to ground level, the movable pool and spa floors prevent anyone from accessing the water when the area is unsupervised or not in use. The owners can now enjoy peace of mind when it comes to the safety of their children and guests.

Using independent movable platforms, powered by silent and compact Spiralift actuators, the system easily provides the depth levels required in both water basins.
